Broiled Grapefruit

You might ask, what the heck is a broiled grapefruit? Well it’s delicious and you need to try it! This takes less than 15 minutes to pull together and you can put your own spin on the recipe as you’ll see in the list of ingredients below. DSC02679

You’ll need:

  • Grapefruit
  • Honey (or agave)
  • Ground cinnamon (ginger works as well)
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Bananas (or strawberries)

Turn your oven broiler on high. Cut your grapefruits in half and use a pairing knife to separate the segments of fruit from the rind. It’s much easier to do this before you broil them. Next, place the grapefruits on a baking sheet and drizzle each with a bit of honey. DSC02668Sprinkle with cinnamon. I had a heavy hand here but the amount of cinnamon you use can vary to your liking.

DSC02672Place the grapefruits under the broiler until the honey has caramelized which should take about 5 minutes. Definitely keep your eye on your grapefruits while they are in the oven as the strength of every broiler varies. You do not want to end up with blackened grapefruits!  Serve warm and enjoy. DSC02684

Ok, I might not be selling you on these with my pictures, but trust me, if you are a fan of grapefruits this is a recipe you need to try. Especially in these cold winter months, candied grapefruit will warm you up inside.
